Power Up Your Reading Time

Is your child getting bored with reading?

They may need some supplemental activities to keep Them motivated. Reading is a basic tool for success in any learning environment; encourage it often.  Here are some key ways to improve your child’s reading time.

1.      Read together.  Sharing the reading takes some of the pressure off our your child. This models good behavior and shows kids that reading is important enough for adults too.
2.      A picture is worth a thousand words. Point to them. Make reference to what the pictures bring to mind. Ask questions regarding the pictures. Draw your own.
3.      If your child gets restless, move on to another activity or take a small break.  You want to keep the experience positive.
4.      Books on Tape. What a great way to keep your children engaged in a story! The voices and sounds are attention grabbing and it’s an activity they can do on their own.
5.       If you suspect that the “boredom” stems from confusion or a fluency problem, consider getting a tutor.  Would you like to be forced to do something you don’t understand? No. Neither do kids. It becomes frustrating and detrimental to their self-image.
